Returning

To return to UCSB after a break in enrollment, undergraduate students must complete the following steps by the absolute deadline noted below:

  1. Submit a completed application for readmission, available from the Office of the Registrar.

  2. Pay a $60.00 processing fee.

  3. Have a transcript sent to the Office of the Registrar from each institution attended during the absence from UCSB.

Note: Readmission may be closed without notice at any time. It is normally open during the priority period listed below:

WINTER July 10-31

Students in certain special categories must complete additional steps, as noted below.

  1. Students who have already completed 155 or more units may be required to submit a Proposed Schedule for Graduation (PSG) before their readmission is approved. The Registrar forwards these applications to the dean of undergraduate studies for review, and the dean will notify students if they must complete a PSG. Students are not normally permitted to continue registering at UCSB once they have completed 200 units.

  2. Students will need to write a letter of appeal for reinstatement if, when they were last enrolled at UCSB, their academic standing was one of the following:

    • Subject to Disqualification
    • Academically Disqualified
    • Dismissed by Dean's Action
    • Reinstated on Probation

See Appealing for Reinstatement for details.

  1. Students whose registration has been blocked will need to clear the block with the appropriate campus office before they can register for courses.

  2. Students who have outstanding debts to the university must resolve the debts.

  3. Students whose absence is the result of disciplinary suspension must be sure the period of suspension has passed.
