Important information regarding Minimum Cumulative Progress (MCP)
Effective Fall 2007:
The Department of Drama and Dance is now the Department of Theater and Dance.
Effective Fall 2006:
-
There are two new Bachelor of Arts programs available in Computer Science:
Computational Biology and Computational Geography. Students newly admitted to the pre-major July 1, 2006, or thereafter will be required to select one of these options. -
An optional emphasis in Geographic Information Science in the B.A. in Geography. Details are available in the Department of Geography.
-
The Global Studies major will be streamlined to have no emphases. All students entering the major beginning July 1, 2006, will follow a single set of major requirements. Two new features are added: foreign language requirements and slightly reduced upper-division requirements. The structure of the upper-division major also is changed. Details are available in the Department of Global and International Studies.
- The name of the Hydrologic Sciences major will change to Hydrologic Sciences and Policy, and the old concentrations will be replaced by a choice of three emphases:
- Biology and Ecology
- Chemical and Physical
- Policy
- Students who pursue the major as listed in the 2006-07 catalog will have the new name for the major; those pursuing an older catalog year will have the old name for the major. Details are available in the Environmental Studies Program office.
-
The major formerly known as Chicano Studies is now Chicana and Chicano Studies. This change affects all students graduating in fall 2006 or later.
-
The Department of Film Studies is now Film and Media Studies.
Beginning Fall 2006, admission to the Law & Society major is suspended until further notice.
- Incoming freshmen and transfer students admitted to UCSB for 2006-07 will NOT be eligible to declare the LAWSO pre-major or major.
- No continuing UCSB student will be permitted to declare the LAWSO pre-major or major EXCEPT in the following cases:
- UCSB students who are already declared pre-majors in the Law & Society Program will be permitted to continue in the pre-major and may declare the full major provided they have met the requirements including the minimum GPA requirement.
- UCSB students who have not declared the pre-major in LAWSO but have passed two of the four courses upon which the pre-major GPA is calculated by the end of Summer 2006 AND have petitioned to declare the pre-major by the end of Winter 2007.
What do you need to do?
CURRENT LAWSO pre-majors and majors: If you are a current UCSB student who has formally declared the pre-major or major in LAWSO, no need to worry. This suspension of admissions does not affect you.
DO YOU WANT TO BE A LAWSO STUDENT? If you are not already a pre-major or major in LAWSO, and wish to switch your major or declare LAWSO as your second major (for double majors), for a limited time, you will be able to do so under the following conditions:
- If you have completed at least one course from the pre-major area A (LAWSO 1, LAWSO 2, POLS 12, and one course in statistics selected from PSTAT 5AA-ZZ or PSYCH 5) with a grade of C or higher and complete a petition to declare the pre-major on or before MARCH 24, 2006 (last day of finals for Winter 2006).
- If you do NOT meet this deadline (March 24, 2006) you may still be eligible. In this instance you must complete two of the four courses in the pre-major area A by the end of SUMMER 2006 and petition to declare the pre-major before the end of Winter 2007. For information please contact the LAWSO Undergraduate Advisor, Cindy Cortez, 1832 Ellison Hall, x2318
